Apparently to show how important the upcoming match between the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) and Nigeria’s Super Falcons slated for June 16 at the brand new Q2 Stadium in Austin is, the organisers will use the occasion to honour veteran player, Carli Lloyd.
According to the tournament programme obtained by Prompt News, Lloyds who earned her historic 300th cap on April 10 during USA versus Sweden match in Stockholm, will be honored for the achievement prior to the USA vs Nigeria game in Austin.
Add to that feat, Lloyd’s next goal will be the 125th of her international career. She is currently six behind retired forward Kristine Lilly, who is in third place on the USA’s all-time goal scoring list.
Meanwhile, Lloyd is by far the most experienced player on the roster of 23 players released by Team USA Head Coach, Vlatko Andonovski, with 301 caps under her belt ahead of the tie against Super Falcons.
The next most experienced player in the roster is veteran defender, Becky Sauerbrunn who has chalked up 117 caps behind her with 184.
Prompt News reports that the tournament tagged ‘Summer Series’ which will feature USA, Nigeria, Portugal and Jamaica.
