Popular Chicago rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Derrick Banks, is currently incarcerated at Broward County Jail, facing federal charges, including a murder-for-hire charge.
His arrest was carried out by U.S. Marshals between late Thursday and early Friday, according to NBC on Friday.
Lil Durk’s arrest “coincides with the indictment of five members of his Chicago-based crew, Only The Family (OTF), who have been charged as co-conspirators in a Los Angeles murder-for-hire plot.”
While it remains unclear whether Durk’s custody is directly related to this ongoing investigation, the timing has drawn significant attention.
According to CBS, the charges against Durk are linked to a plot targeting rapper Quando Rondo’s cousin, who was killed in 2022.
Investigators suggest that the alleged conspiracy was a form of retaliation for the earlier murder of Chicago rapper King Von.
The five individuals associated with Durk’s music business were implicated in the case just hours before his arrest.
Further corroborating reports from the Daily Mail stated, “Rapper Lil Durk ‘is arrested over murder-for-hire plot’ hours after five were charged over links to the shooting of Quando Rondo’s cousin.”
These reports indicate that Lil Durk was arrested in Broward County, Florida, on Thursday night and is currently awaiting transfer to the custody of U.S. Marshals.
The indictment of the five alleged OTF members, unsealed by a U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, includes serious charges such as conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, committing murder-for-hire involving a death, and using a machine gun in a violent crime resulting in death.
Lil Durk has made a significant impact in the music industry, with collaborations with artists like Drake on “Laugh Now Cry Later” and J. Cole on “All My Life,” both of which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard chart.
Notably, he won a Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance in 2024 for “Laugh Now Cry Later.”(Punch)
