Nigerian military authorities Wednesday said only eight students are yet to be freed from their abductors.
On Tuesday, gunmen suspected to be members of the dreaded insurgents, Boko Haram stormed a Government Girls’ Secondary School at Chibok, in Borno State and abducted 129 female students.
Nigerian troops enforcing emergency rule in the three north eastern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, immediately launched a manhunt to free them.
According to Defence spokesperson, Major General Chris Olukolade, the Principal of the School has confirmed that 121 girls have returned to school, leaving only eight still missing.
Olukolade in a statement stated, “More students of the Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok have been freed this evening in the on-going search and rescue operations to free the abducted students.
“With this development, the Principal of the School confirmed that only 8 of the students are still missing. One of the terrorists who carried out the attack on the school has also been captured.
“Efforts are underway to locate the remaining 8 students”.
Of late, the insurgents have been targeting College children but this is the first time such a large number of students and all girls would be abducted.
Also recently, hundreds of students were killed by the insurgents when they attacked a government school at night in Yobe state.

‘Nigerian Troops Chase Abductors, Free More Girls’
As the chase of the terrorists that abducted hundreds of female students in north eastern Nigerian continues, troops said Wednesday that more girls have been freed.
Gunmen suspected to be members of the dreaded Islamist sect, Boko Haram, on Tuesday abducted about 129 students of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State.
According the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, “troops pursuing the terrorists close in on the den of those believed to have carried out the attack”.
He however did not disclose how many have been freed so far.
Olukolade also states that troops deployed to restore law and order in Wukari, Taraba State, have apprehended 14 armed men who were involved in the fighting during the civil disturbances in the town early in the week.
“The fighting resulted in the burning of no fewer than 25 houses and displacement of over 200 persons.
“The troops also captured a building where arms were being fabricated. 4 locally fabricated machine guns, one sub machine gun, 4 single barrel guns as well as 21 live cartridges were recovered in the process.
“Normalcy has since been restored as troops maintain patrols of the locality,’ Olukolade said..
He assured that security forces have been directed to continue with the tempo of offensive on all the terrorists’ enclaves anywhere in the country.
