Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully intercepted a shipment of Loud, a synthetic cannabis strain, concealed in a duvet at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The drugs, weighing a total of 3.50 kilograms, were packaged in six parcels and intended for export to the United Kingdom.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed on Sunday that the drugs were cleverly hidden inside the duvet. Austin Balogun, the primary agent behind the shipment, hired Sunday Adakole for the operation and claimed he was paid N700,000 to ship the drugs.
However, Balogun disclosed that most of the money was spent on an apartment, with only a small portion used for export handling charges.
In another operation, NDLEA agents raided a hideout in the Igbo Olumo area of Ikorodu, Lagos, where they arrested two suspects, Joseph Adewale and Biodun Adelakun.
The operatives recovered seven litres of “skuchies,” a new psychoactive substance made from black currant, cannabis, and opioids, along with an arsenal of firearms, including locally made double-barrelled rifles and pistols, as well as cartridges and an iron-head axe.
Further investigations led to the discovery of 47kg of skunk, a cannabis strain, and 25.46kg of Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) in the Akala area of Mushin, Lagos.
In Ekiti State, a 26-year-old suspect, Adepoju Taiwo, was arrested on January 23 with 1.95kg of Canadian Loud, while in Kwara State, Auwal Sani was detained on January 20 with 50,000 tramadol pills weighing 36.56kg.
Additionally, three suspects, including Nigerien Abubakar Lami, were apprehended in Kano State with 13.1kg of skunk and 125 litres of a new psychoactive substance known as “suck and die.” A cannabis plantation in the Dawakin Kudu council area was also destroyed by NDLEA officers.
