The Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung is proud of the Golden Eaglets for their 1-0 victory over Angola at the ongoing U-17 African Cup of Nations going on in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking after the victory that has technically qualified Nigeria for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil, Dalung said the victory was a confirmation of the abundant sporting talents that abound in the country.
He praised the team for their resilience and discipline in the face of adversity after the team maintained a clean sheet on the backdrop of conceding four goals in their first group game against Tanzania.
“These Eaglets are truly ‘Golden’. I must commend the boys for a job well done and for staying resolute. Their defensive performance against Angola is really a joy to behold and a great improvement compared to their first game.”
Dalung noted that winning two games on the bounce by the Manu Garba led boys was never an easy task but a result of hours of preparations prior to the competition
“For youngsters at this stage to show such high level of discipline in defense, it is a pointer to their enviable level of emotional maturity and team work.”
He therefore charged the boys to keep improving and working hard with each game in their quest to win the much coveted title.
“Going to the FIFA World Cup as African champions will add the necessary bounce to their steps as they embark on their journey to conquer the world.”
