Two lives were lost, and four others sustained injuries in separate crashes on the Long Bridge and Sagamu corridors of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, according to the Ogun State Police Command.
The incidents, which occurred on Friday, involved a Volkswagen bus and a collision between a Volvo truck and a Cabstar pickup van.
The first accident involved a Volkswagen bus (registration number LSR 793 YF) carrying 14 passengers toward Ibadan. The bus suffered a burst front tyre on the Long Bridge, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle swerved, hit the road median, and somersaulted multiple times.
A female passenger died at the scene, while three women and one man sustained varying injuries. They were rushed to A-Z Private Hospital in Magboro for treatment.
The Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, said: “Traffic personnel from the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) conducted on-site investigations, removed the deceased’s body to Real Divine Mortuary in Ibafo for an autopsy, and cleared the wreckage to prevent further obstruction.”
The second fatal accident occurred near En-Salam Filling Station on the Sagamu corridor. It involved a Volvo truck (registration number FZE 2350 G) loaded with goods and a Cabstar pickup van (registration number AGL 904 AP).
Both vehicles were traveling from Lagos to Ibadan when the driver of the pickup van, Tope Kolawole, lost control and rear-ended the truck.
The crash left a passenger, Saka Alaigbade, trapped in the wreckage.
Despite being rushed to Idera Private Hospital, Saka succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.
“The victim’s remains were later handed over to grieving family members,” Odutola said.
She also confirmed that the severely damaged pickup van was a grim reminder of the collision.
Both accidents were investigated, with the vehicles moved to the respective Motor Traffic Division offices for further inspection by the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO).
The Ogun State Police Command continued to urge drivers to maintain safe speeds and ensure proper vehicle maintenance to prevent such tragedies.
