Turkish Airlines will commence scheduled flight operations into Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano on Friday, December 13, 2013.
The inaugural flight will arrive the airport at 1.00 am local time.
The airline which will also provide additional services at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, will operate the Kano flight four times a week at the initial stage.
The Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah had worked tirelessly to actualise this dream of bringing more international flight to Kano and she is still working, in line with President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda in the aviation industry to encourage more foreign airlines to operate into Nigerian airports.
Turkish Airlines was founded in 1933 with a fleet of 5 planes and is a member of Star Alliance. At present, it has a fleet of 233 planes (both passenger and cargo) and operates scheduled flights to a total of 243 destinations – 201 international and 42 domestic.
The airline was named the “Best Airline in Europe” in 2013 for the third year running, and the “Best Airline in Southern Europe” for the fifth year running. The airline, which received the title “Best Food in Economy Class” award on a global scale in 2010, also earned “Best Food in Business Class” award this year by Skytrax.
