President Bola Tinubu will travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Sunday to participate in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit, scheduled for January 27-28, 2025.
The announcement was made by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement released on Saturday, titled “President Tinubu to Attend Africa Heads of State Energy Summit in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.”
The summit, organized by the Tanzanian government in partnership with the African Development Bank and the World Bank, will focus on advancing “Mission 300,” an initiative aimed at providing electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.
Leaders from across Africa, along with private sector representatives, development partners, and civil society groups, will convene in Dar es Salaam to strategize on improving energy access across the continent.
The summit will serve as a platform for sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources to tackle Africa’s energy challenges.
Key discussions at the summit will cover accelerating energy access in underserved regions, promoting renewable energy, enhancing energy efficiency, and attracting private sector investments.
On the first day, participating countries, including Nigeria, will present their national energy strategies, known as energy compacts, which outline plans for achieving universal energy access within five years.
The second day will see African Heads of State endorsing the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, a unified roadmap for Africa’s progress toward the Mission 300 objectives.
“President Tinubu will deliver a statement reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to universal energy access and its leadership role in Africa’s energy sector,” the statement noted. He will also highlight Nigeria’s ongoing clean energy initiatives and its strategy to support integrated energy delivery across the continent.
Joining the president on his trip will be the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu; Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Olu Verheijen; and other senior government officials.
