President Bola Tinubu has extended a festive gesture by distributing bags of rice to Student Union Government (SUG) Presidents from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The distribution, which took place on Tuesday, was facilitated by the Special Adviser on Students Engagement, Asefon Sunday.
The initiative is part of the President’s ongoing efforts to support students, especially during the holiday season.
According to Asefon, the President views students not only as the leaders of tomorrow but as leaders of today.
“Today, SUG Presidents from across the nation will receive rice from President Bola Tinubu, a leader who values students and their role in shaping the future,” he said.
Originally planned for December 2024, the rice distribution was delayed, arriving in Abuja on December 28.
Representatives from each zone were invited to the capital to receive the items personally, with two SUG Presidents from each zone chosen to oversee the distribution process.
Asefon described the initiative as unprecedented, noting that for the first time in Nigeria, a sitting President is directly reaching out to student leaders during the festive season.
He also assured students of additional benefits under the Presidential initiative in 2024, encouraging them to actively engage with the government and voice their opinions.
Fahad Abdullahi, the SUG President of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the student leaders for the thoughtful gesture.
