Nigerian TikToker Olumide Ogunsanwo, popularly known as Seaking, has revealed a startling story from his time in Kirikiri prison, shedding light on the struggles of inmates who lack access to justice.
As reported by Vanguard, in a recent video, Seaking described how the prison is largely occupied by individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who cannot afford legal representation.
He recounted a particularly troubling case involving two inmates who have been in custody since 1999 due to a stolen generator.
According to Seaking, one of the men was accused of stealing the generator, while the other was detained for purchasing it.
Speaking in Pidgin English, he said, “There is someone inside Kirikiri said to have stolen a generator. Him and the person he sold the generator to have been in Kirikiri since 1999. Calculate the years.”
The TikToker expressed his disbelief, questioning why the buyer of the generator has been imprisoned for so long. “Why is it that the person who spent his money to buy the stolen generator has been in prison since 1999?” he asked.
Seaking also criticized the justice system, highlighting the socio-economic disparity among inmates. He described the prison as a place where only the poor and powerless seem to end up.
“When I got there, all I saw were poor and voiceless people,” he lamented.
