Golden Eaglets captain Samson Tijani was named man of the match in the side’s 1-0 win against Angola in their second Group A game at the Africa U -17 Cup of Nations in Tanzania.
Tijani put up an outstanding display in the middle of park and also did a good job in helping the Golden Eaglets ward off the threats of the Angolans.
He is the second Nigerian player to scoop the award in the competition after Akinkunmi Amoo was named man of the match in the side’s opening day win against hosts Tanzania.
The talented midfielder expressed his happiness on winning the award after the game played at the National Stadium, Dar es Salaam.
“I am happy for being a man of the match today, and my happiness grew higher as we are almost through to the FIFA U-17 World Cup,”he told reporters after the game.
A lone goal from Olakunle Olusegun from the spot in the 20th minute was enough for Nigeria to beat the ten-man Angolans in the game.
Nigeria was awarded a penalty after Angola skipper, Jose Cabingano handed the ball inside the box and Olusegun made no mistakes to put it into the back of the net to decide the match.
The Golden Eaglets top the group with six points from two matches and needed only a draw in their last game against Uganda on Saturday to secure a place in the semi-final as well as the ticket to the FIFA U -17 World Cup in Brazil.
