Manchester United have sacked manager Erik ten Hag following the club’s poor start to the season.
Ten Hag was handed a contract extension four months ago but will now have to look for another job following his dismissal.
United have won just three of their opening nine league games of the campaign.
The Red Devils lost 2-1 to West Ham United in the Dutchman’s final game in charge of the club.
Former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will take interim charge with immediate effect as the side prepare to face Leicester on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup.
United stated on Monday afternoon: “We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.
“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”
