Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Wednesday promised to compensate the residents of Tudunwada Community of Lugbe Federal Housing FCT within one week.
Mr Ifeayi Ezeukwu, Executive Director, Human Resource of TCN, said this in a meeting with the community leaders in Abuja.
Ezeukwu, who represented the Managing Director, stated that by Thursday Feb. 1 the consultant should have received the money for the residents.
He said that the consultant will pay all those affected before Thursday next week.
“This week the consultant will received the money and at most one week everybody affected will get their compensation,” he said.
Mr Igboanusi Obinna, Principal Partner Doe Gratia Legal Consult, representing the community said that they were satisfied with the promised made by TCN.
He, however, said that he hoped that the company would keep to its promise to pay the residents by next week, stating that all they want is to be compensated.
“We are satisfied with the outcome of the meeting at the moment, until the full implementation of the promise, we will not go and rest until all the residents are fully compensated.”
Mr Steve Odiaka, the Chairman of the Community said he was happy with the outcome of the meeting, and hoped that the promise would be fulfilled.
“We are here for the meeting and we are happy because 65 per cent of the job is done, last week we had a peaceful protest.
“They have given us their promises, so we are waiting for the compensation from the consultant and we are hopeful.”
The residents of Tundunwada in Lugbe community of FCT had staged a protest last week.
The protest followed plans by the TCN to embark on demolition of the area, to give way for construction of a power station.
