The First-Class Chief of Takum in Taraba, His Majesty, Sopiya Ahmadu, on Wednesday called on the governors of Taraba and Benue to join forces and stem the growing tide of killings along the border communities of the two states.
This is contained in a statement signed by his secretary, Danlami Garbuwa, which was made available to newsmen in Jalingo.
Ahmadu, who described the recent killings as wicked and barbaric, said the unwarranted incident had caused pains and agonies in the area.
While calling on the people of the area to remain calm, he urged the citizens to resist the temptation of retaliation, assuring that security agencies, the government and other key stakeholders were actively working to identify and apprehend those responsible.
“These sad incidents are happening when the memory of the gruesome killing of the Third Class Chief of Chanchanji and his son is still fresh on the minds of the people in the area.
“Our resolve is to continue to work with the government and security agencies to bring an end to any sort of killings.
“In doing this, the people must always report any suspicious character or acts to security agencies for prompt action.
“I want to commend Gov. Agbu Kefas for the result-oriented security measures being implemented in the state.
” I want to call on the government to scale up the operations and deployments of security agencies as the attackers have become more daring.
“These criminal activities are mostly perpetrated within and by criminal elements from neighbouring Local Government Areas, especially Katsina-Ala LGA of Benue hence the need for collaboration by the two states to end the killings,” he said.
