Embattled Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal has confirmed joining the presidential race on the platform of his new party, the All Progressives Congress.
He confirmed this through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Imam Imam, on Thursday.
In a text message reply to media enquiry, Imam, said friends and associates of his Principal (Speaker) bought the presidential expression of interest and nomination forms for him.
“Earlier today, some friends and political associates of the Speaker notified him that they have bought the forms for him,” Imam stated in a sms.
Prompt News recalls that Mr. Tambuwal recently dumped the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the opposition APC.
Upon defection, he was rumoured to be eyeing the governorship seat in his State, Sokoto, as he also stated that his decision to dump the ruling party was informed by the development in his home state and his political future.
With this development, Tambuwal has now joined four others who are aspiring to pick the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2015 general elections.
Those who had picked up the forms and formally declared their intention earlier are:
A former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari; a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwakwanso and the Publisher of Leadership Newspapers, Mr Nda Isaiah.
