The National Leader of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Youth Wing, Engineer Damian Okafor has applauded the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for suspending the weekly Monday sit-at-home ordered by the group in protest against the continued detention of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Okafor said that the group has shown, with this change in style, that it can engage in constructive dialogue and it’s amenable to new, peaceful and more impactful strategies.
The IPOB announced the suspension of the weekly sit-at-home through its radio station. In a broadcast by the group’s head, Directorate of State, Chika Edoziem, the group said it would no longer require Igbos in the Southeast to sit at home on Mondays, but would rather ask for such protest to hold everyday that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will appear in court for his trial.
The Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Wing has been vocal in requesting a review of the sit-at-home home order just as in the statements signed by the Deputy National Leader of the Youth Wing of the apex Igbo sociocultural organization, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, the group had given many reasons why the order is counterproductive and unsustainable.
But speaking to some reporters after the news of the suspension broke, Jones said the news is not completely a surprise to him, given that no true Igbo would want to support or sustain any action that suppresses Igbo economic activities and educational advancement.
According to him; “As long the IPOB is truly an organization that is passionate about Igbo development and growth, I am not a bit surprised about this suspension. No genuine Igbo group or true Igbo born leadership would want to sustain any action or strategies that impede on the economic and social development of ALA Igbo.”
Onwuasoanya also commended the Ambassador George Obiozor led National Executive Council of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide for its proactive and unyielding moves to ensure that the Leader of IPOB and other members and sympathizers who have been unjustly detained anywhere in the country, are unconditionally released from detention.
