President Goodluck Jonathan Thursday in far away Nairobi, Kenya, received the least excepted visitor in his Intercontinental Hotel- former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The former President’s visit was said to have caught the security and protocol aides to the President unaware.
Obasanjo and Jonathan were in Nairobi to attend the 50th Independent Anniversary Celebration of Kenya.
Interestingly, both leaders also attended the Memorial Service in honour of the African icon and former South African President Nelson Mandela.
From there South Africa, they headed to Nairobi separately to honour President Uhuru Kenyatta’s invitation.
But, rather than heading straight to Safaricom Stadium in Kasarani, Nairobi, venue of the celebration, Obasanjo chose to first and foremost pay homage to his President.
It was gathered that both leaders held closed door talks which lasted for about 30 minutes over breakfast.
On Wednesday, Premium Times published a letter Obasanjo wrote to President Jonathan, in which he accused him of destroying the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to realize personal ambition, destroying Nigeria and promoting corruption.
Furious by the allegation which was described as ‘baseless’ and that a letter that supposed to be personal between both leaders was leaked to the media, the Presidency also issued a press statement.
Presidential Media Adviser, Dr Reuben Abati, in the statement said President Jonathan would write a comprehensive reply at the appropriate time.
However, Abati said the leakage of the letter to the media was in bad taste, describing it as self-serving, provocative and unbecoming of a former Head of State and an elder statesman.
