Nigerians from all walks of life, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State honoured President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday as he gave out his daughter in marriage.
Jonathan’s daughter, Faith wedded Godswill Osim Edward, a Cross River prince at a very colourful ceremony held at the National Christian Centre while reception took place at the International Conference centre, both in Abuja.
However, guests were surprised when former President Obasanjo and Governor Amaechi made a surprise appearance. The two gladiators are known not to be in good terms with President Jonathan.
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, presided over the Church wedding while the bride read the lesson from the New Testament, the book of Ephesians 5:21-33.
Pastor Adeboye, quoting from Ephesians Chapter 5, Verses 22 to 25, told the couple that the success of the marriage would depend largely on the head of the family.
According to him, the marriage can only work if the wife submits totally to the husband while the husband is also expected to always listen to advice from his wife.
Pastor Adeboye also advised the couple not to give room to external interference just as she encouraged the congregation to truly give their lives to Christ in order to partake in the marriage of the Lamb rather than the marriage of the anti-Christ.
President Jonathan while speaking at the reception, advised the couple not to share their problems with the third party either friends or parents, saying jocularly “We are analogue and you are digital. Our advice can’t fit, he said”.
Noting that it was not easy to let her daughter go, Jonathan however said giving a child out in marriage is the dream of every parent, saying, “it is both a sad and glorious occasion.”
Present at the colourful ceremony were attended by state governors, ministers, PDP leaders, lawmakers, businessmen, diplomats and top government functionaries.
