Nigeria’s senior women’s football team has not commenced training in Spain as no fewer than 13 players are yet to arrive Super Falcons’ Sevilla camp two days after the team arrived for a two-week training in preparation for the upcoming Paris 2024 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.
Prompt News has exclusively gathered that only nine players out of the 22 selected by Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum for the trip to Spain are in the camp as at the time of filing this report.
In camp as at Saturday morning are team captain and Spain-based Rasheedat Ajibade, two goalkeepers Chiamaka Nnadozie of Paris FC, France and Tochukwu Oluehi of Shualat Alsharqia FC, Saudi Arabia as well as forward Gift Monday who plays for Coasta Adeje Tenerife Egatesa in Spain.
Others in camp are defender Chidinma Okeke (Mynavi Sendai Ladies, Japan), midfielders Christy Ucheibe (SL Benfica, Portugal) and Toni Payne (Sevilla FC, Spain) and goalkeeper Morufat Ademola (Rivers Angels, Nigeria).
Prompt News can confirm that officials in Sevilla camp are Waldrum, Assistant coach Ann Agumanu-Chiejine, Physical trainer Quigley Adrian Kyle, Team Administrator Mary Oboduku, Garba Larai-team Doctor, Nwachukwu Adaku-Physiotherapist and Bukaru Hauwa- Attachè.
The team departed Abuja on Thursday with some players alongside Nigerian assistant coaches and backroom staff even as the rest of the playing body and technical staff led by Waldrum are already in Seville as at yesterday.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons who are making their first Olympic appearance since 2008, have been drawn into a challenging group against the might of Brazil, Spain and Japan.
Nigeria will kick off her campaign on July 25 against the formidable Brazilians in Bordeaux, before facing Spain on July 28 and Japan on July 31 in Nantes. READ ALSO:
