Nigeria’s Super Falcons started their campaign at the WAFU Women’s Cup on a winning note by thrashing Burkina Faso 5-1 at the Stade Du Parc Des Sports, Abidjan on Thursday.
The Super Falcons lay siege on the Burkina Babes in the opening minutes of the game and were rewarded for their positive start when Uchenna Kanu fired home on nine minutes.
Skipper of the side Evelyn Nwabuoku doubled the advantage when she converted from the spot in the 16th minute.
Thomas Dennerby’s ladies got the third four minutes later when Amarachi Okoronkwo converted another penalty.
Kanu was the star of the show in the second half as scored two more goals in the 50th and 71st minutes respectively.
Charlotte Milligo scored the consolation for Burkina Faso late in the game.
Niger and Mali will clash in the other Group B game at the same venue also on Thursday.
The Super Falcons will face Niger in their next game on Sunday.
The team is using the competition as part of their preparation for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
