Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, commonly known as Sunday Igboho, has expressed his belief that many Nigerians no longer take pride in being citizens of the country.
In a video shared online on Thursday, Igboho, who was at an airport in the United Kingdom, pointed to issues like corruption, insecurity, and economic struggles as the key reasons behind the growing lack of patriotism.
Igboho, a known separatist figure, argued that if Nigeria continues to be unable to function as a unified nation, it may be better for different ethnic groups to separate and pursue their own paths.
He stated that various nationalities should have the freedom to break away if the country cannot meet their needs.
He also mentioned that Yoruba youths, who have gained extensive international experience, are eager to return home and use their knowledge to modernize and prosper the Yoruba Nation, similar to developed nations in Europe.
“In Nigerian airports, there is no security. People can have their personal items stolen right from their bags. Such things discourage people from being proud of Nigeria. This is part of why we push for separation,” Igboho said.
He added, “Yoruba youths who have traveled globally are ready to transform our land. They have gathered valuable knowledge that can be used to build a prosperous society, much like those in Europe.”
