The League Management Board, LMB, organisers of the Kwese Premier Basketball League has cautioned all the Kwese league teams to disregard the invitation sent to them by the Kida faction of the NBBF to participate in “a so-called 2019 NBBF Premier Basketball League”.
In a letter to the teams titled ” 2019 Domestic Basketball League: Look Before You Leap “, with Reference no.
KPL/2019/TC/Vol.1/52 and dated October 4, 2019, the LMB through its Coordinator, Ajibarede Bello, warned the teams that an Abuja Federal High Court, vide suit no FHC/ABJ/CS/1317/2018, had ” issued an injunction restraining any other league from being played pending the determination of the substantive issue ” brought before it by the 2018/2019 KPL Champions and runners-up (Gombe Bulls and Kwara Falcons).”
Reminding the teams that “the injunction order restraining the playing of the illegal league still stands”, the LMB stated that, “it should be clear to all discerning teams that the Kida faction (of the NBBF) has no legal standing to invite any Premier League team to a tournament in violation of an existing Court Order”.
According to Mr Bello, a contempt of court notice was filed against the Kida faction and the teams that participated in their 2018 abridged league against all advice and (the case) comes up on Wednesday, October 9, 2019.
It would be recalled that Gombe Bulls and Kwara Falcons, who emerged champions and runners-up of the 2018/2019 Kwese Premier League respectively, went to court to enforce their rights and restrain the Kida faction from presenting any other illegible teams for the African Championship after they were deliberately excluded and denied the right to represent the country in the continental championship.
