The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has urged the people of the State to stay focused on their resolve to effect a change of government with a view to liberating themselves form the shackles of an insensitive and visionless government foisted on them by the Governor Adams Oshiomhole-led All Progressives Congress (APC).
A statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Mr Chris Nehikhare, quoted the party leadership to have expressed appreciation to party members “across the state and beyond, for their doggedness and resourcefulness in spite of all odds, in the run up to the September 10 Edo Governorship Election which was intriguingly postponed at the last hours.
The party leadership, according to the statement, further said, “We also wish to thank Edo people whose overwhelming support for the PDP in our mutual desire to effect a change of governance for the liberation of our people from the manacles of an insensitive, irresponsible and visionless party, has been our inspiration and encouragement.
“Our profound appreciation also goes to the media which has enabled us to make our voice loud and clear, and our presence felt.
“We want to implore all and sundry not to be overwhelmed by the disappointment this ill-motivated postponement must naturally have caused.
“Our enthusiasm to partake in the voting exercise, which apparently was one of the objectives of the postponement, should not be dampened.
“Rather, this rude interference should serve as a challenge to rededicate ourselves to the goal of repositioning our state through the ballot by voting to “change the change” which has made us almost miserable.
“September 28, the new date for the election, is around the corner. On this day, Edo people must make those that seek to subjugate or subvert their will know that on this matter, we are unbending and inconquerable.”
The leadership stated, “The PDP, which has regained the confidence of our people will not disappoint before, during and after the election. We remain resolute in defending democracy and the aspirations of the good people of Edo State.
“In a short while, we shall be unveiling our plan to engage the electorate across the state towards sustaining the support we have had and more.
“In the mean time, do we need to remind our people that a vote for the APC in the forthcoming governorship election is a vote for the continuation of untold hardship, deceit and humiliation?
“These are the things we promise to change. To those that believe in us already, we say thank you once again; to those that are still in doubt, we say have faith, we will not let you down.”
