By Mohammed Yangida, Lafia The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Federal University Lafia, on Thursday protested over the condition attached to payment of their January salary by the University management.
Speaking to Journalists during the protest, Chairman of Association in the University Dr. Abubakar Mahmud said the decision to protest was taken due to the management’s insistence that staffers of the university must sign a consent form before 80% of their January salary would be paid to them.
He explained that the Association was told in a meeting with the university management that only 80% of their salaries would be paid for the month of January, while the balance would be paid in March.
“We all agreed only for them to come this morning and asked staffers of the university to sign a consent form before receiving their salaries, this is a trick by the university management to victimize some staff, which we will not accept,” he said.
The Chairman also noted that the association has resolved that no management staff will leave their various offices until the salaries of staffers of the university are paid.
Prompt News reports that with the situation at hand, members association may go on strike which will no doubt, affect academic activities in the University.
