Minister of Sports Development Sen. John Owan Enoh Thursday, inspected MKO Abiola Stadium to ensure that the tough grass is being treated and maintained with the proper chemicals that will enhance its growth and as well, bring out the lively green colour.
“I cannot have an office in the stadium as the Minister of Sports and watch the grass not growing to be used for events’. Sen. Enoh while inspecting the tough grass reminded the contractors treating the tough grass that major event will hold in the stadium early April this year thus the need for them to be up and doing to make the grass come up with brighter colour that will give the stadium a new look like that of International standard.
Meanwhile, the Minister who sent forth the first batch of athletes and officials to the Africa Games on Tuesdays the 5th of March, 2024 is already receiving good news from Table Tennis player Quadri Aruna who has won Silver medal in men singles and Offiong Edem who also, won Bronze medal in the women’s singles for the country at the on-going 13th African Games in Ghana. Sen. Enoh has since the departure of the Nigerian contingents been monitoring closely the performances of his atheletes whom he believes will come back with credible medals that will definitely make them the envy of their peer groups.
However, the contractors during interaction with the Minister, said that even though it will take sixteen weeks to destroy the termites eating up the tough grass, events can still be held in the stadium.
He also, confirmed that all the logistics required to get their job done as expected have been made available to them.
