Two sports federations – Taekwando and Gymnastics boards were put on hold during the inauguration of National Sports Federation Boards at the Abuja National Stadium.
Sports Minister and Chairman National Sports Commission Solomon Dalung, suspended the inauguration of the two federations following crisis among the members.
Members of the federations that were not inaugurated left the Abuja National Stadium disappointed and described their trips to Abuja as ‘a waste of resources’.
“The minister and Sports ministry should ensure we get alert before we consider a new date for election”, an angry member of Taekwando Federation said.
The expansion of board membership from the usual 13 to 50 has however caused huge financial burden on contestants into the sports federation.
Sports minister Dalung had expanded the federations delegates to 50 each and argued that the earlier 13 delegates was not encouraging in a democratic setting.
But Dalung is said to have turned deaf ears to request for financial assistance to the contestants.
