Fresh from the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Cote d’Ivoire, head coach of South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, Hugo Broos has criticised Super Eagles gaffer, Josè Peseiro, saying that he was surprised Nigeria played defensive football throughout the competition especially in the semi-final clash against his team.
Speaking on cable television programme, Soccer Africa monitored in Abuja on Thursday night, Broos his opposite number could not offer any superior tactics when the Super Eagles played against the Bafana Bafana, pointing out he could see Peseiro signaling to his players to push back to defend instead of asking them to move up field to attack during Nigeria versus South Africa semi-final match which the former won on penalties.
“The coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles (Peseiro) is weak in my view because he is always signalling his players to push back instead of attacking the opposition. He had no tactics, his team didn’t come to attack when South Africa met Nigeria. They relied on occasional counter-attack with two wingers. That was when they git us because they have fast wingers”,Broos said of the Nigeria team.

Also speaking on the programme, former Nigeria international goalkeeper Pastor Peterside Idah insisted that his call for the sack of the Super Eagles coach was based on the performance of the team in the just concluded AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.
Said he: “I am again calling for the sack of José Peseiro as Nigeria’s coach because his tactics made Nigeria lose the final match to Cote d Ivoire. No wonder his friend is Josè Mourinho and for that reason his team could not play the Nigeria attacking game but always parked the bus. He is not a good coach and if Nigeria had a coach like Hugo Broos, we would have lifted the trophy instead of Cote d’Ivoire”.
