Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu, Sokoto State Governor-elect and his deputy, Alhaji Idris Gobir, have received their certificates of return.
Also given the certificates on Thursday in Sokoto were 30 members-elect of the State House of Assembly.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Prof. Muhammad Kalla, the INEC National Commissioner in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States, presented the certificates.
Kalla appreciated the good people of the state for their maturity and commitment toward ensuring that the elections were peaceful.
“For the elected officials, I appeal to you to remain committed toward fulfilling the promises made to the electorate.
“The electorate should continue to pray for them to lead aright; to provide a leadership that would enhance the living standard of the people, our state and Nigeria at large,” he said.
In his remarks, the governor-elect appreciated INEC for ensuring a peaceful free, fair and credible election that led to his victory.
“This victory is not for Ahmad Aliyu; it is for the entire people of Sokoto State. I thank the electorate for reposing confidence in me.
“I also wish to appreciate my political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) for allowing me to contest.
“I also wish to appeal to my opponents to join hands with us toward building a Sokoto State of our dream,” he said.
NAN reports that the 10th Assembly will feature 20 and 10 members from the APC and PDP respectively. (NAN)
