The Sokoto State House of Assembly has called on the state government to urgently rehabilitate 35 km of link roads in Gudu Local Government Area.
This plea arose from a motion presented at the assembly’s parliamentary sitting on Wednesday by Alhaji Yahaya Amadu (APC-Gudu) and seconded by Alhaji Faruku Sidi (APC-Gwadabawa South).
Amadu highlighted the necessity of the motion, citing the challenges faced by the predominantly farming communities in the affected areas.
“The residents of these villages are mainly farmers cultivating rice, millet, maize, cassava, sugar cane, onion, and tomatoes on a commercial scale,” he emphasised.
The lawmaker identified the affected link roads, including an 18 km stretch from Yakka village connecting Boto, Gwazange, to Bachaka, and a 17 km route from Katsura village linking Baushi, Kukkoki, Awultiki to Marake
Amadu underscored that rehabilitating these roads would significantly improve the socio-economic activities of the affected citizens and by extension, contribute to the state’s overall development.
“Furthermore, this initiative aligns with one of the nine-point agenda of the current administration, recognising the pivotal role of well-maintained access roads in fostering the socio-economic development of any society,” he explained.
Presiding over the session, Deputy Speaker Alhaji Kabiru Ibrahim conducted a voice vote, with members unanimously supporting the request.
Meanwhile, the lawmakers have suspended order 15, rule 12, sub-rule 1 of the House standing orders 2019, which restricted entry of strangers into the chamber while in session except with the consent of the assembly.
This, according to the House leader, Alhaji Bello Idris (APC-Gwadabawa North) was resolved by the lawmakers to allow Gov. Ahmed Aliyu and his entourage to attend the chamber on Thursday for the presentation of the 2024 budget proposal. (NAN). READ ALSO:
