Apparently out of fear of the unknown many people in the South East geo-political zone of Nigeria on Monday stayed at home following the threats of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples Of Biafran (IPOB) for them to observe a work-free day on Monday, August 9, 2021, in support of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is under the custody of authorities.
Prompt News reports that residents of most states in the zone stayed away from their business premises, offices and shops for fear of attacks while some major markets in Nnewi, Anambra state; Owerri, Imo state; Ariaria, Abia state, Ogbete, Enugu states as well as markets in Ebonyi state.
Also, transport services were withdrawn across the cities in the zone just as the streets and roads were virtually empty in the better part of the day while transporters who dared to be on the road were reportedly attacked in some areas.
In many parts of the states in the zone, it was observed that people deliberately stayed indoors in order not to be caught in the ceasefire the agitators and law enforcement agencies.
However, an unnamed group took to the streets in Owerri, the Imo state capital on Monday to protest against the IPOB- induced Sit-at-Home order.
Meanwhile, it was observed that school children who have National Examination Council (NECO) in Imo state still attended the examination while transporters resumed their business in the evening period.
