ACCRA – The Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has paid a condolence visit to Nigeria High Commission in Accra to condole with the people and government of Nigeria on the death of former President Shehu Shagari.
Dr Bawumia, was received on arrival by the Nigeria High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Olufemi Abikoye, who led the visitor to sign the condolence register.
In his remarks, the Vice President expressed the sincere condolences of the government and people of Ghana to the government and people of Nigeria on the loss of late President Shagari.
He also noted that the late President served Nigeria well and regarded him as a proud Son not only of Nigeria but Africa.
Responding, Ambassador Abikoye, on behalf of the government and people of Nigeria thanked the government of Ghana on “their concern on our late president particularly with the recent visit of the Vice President to the Chancery.”
Recall that President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana had sent a condolence message to President Muhammadu Buhari in an official communication dated Monday, December 31, 2018.
Meanwhile, members of the Diplomatic Community in Accra have also been visiting the High Commission to sign the condolence register.
