Senegal won their first ever Africa Cup of Nations title following a 4 – 2 penalty shoot out victory against Egypt.
According to Pnosports.com, Senegal were awarded a penalty early in the game after Saliou Ciss was brought down inside the box by Mohamed Abdelmonem.
Sadio Mane stepped up to take the spot kick, but was denied the chance to put the Terangha Lions ahead by Mohamed Abou Gabal.
The Senegalese created a number of chances afterwards but were let down by their poor marksmanship.
Edouard Mendy produced a superb save to deny Mohamed Salah around the half hour mark.
Senegal finished the half the stronger side, with Egypt looking for opportunities on the counter attack.
The tempo of the game slow down after the break as both teams took a cautious approach.
Egypt came close to taking the lead twice in the latter part of the second half, but failed to hit target.
Extra time was needed to determine the winner, but both teams failed to produce a winner despite creating a number of clear cut opportunities.
In the penalty, Senegal scored five, while Egypt netted thrice.
