The Senate on Wednesday said it would look into appeals to confirm Board members of the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN).
This followed a Point of Order by Sen. Shehu Sani in plenary.
While citing Order 43 of the Senate Standing Rule, the lawmaker urged the senate to lift its embargo on screening and confirmation of the Board of Central Bank of Nigerian (CBN) forwarded to it since 2017 by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said that lack of the board was limiting capacities and functions of CBN.
In his remarks, Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki ruled that the Senate would look into the matter.
The Red Chamber had in March, confirmed nominees for positions of Deputy Governor of the CBN and members of Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) while omitting the board members and other pending confirmations.
The Senate had placed embargo on confirmation of Presidential nominees in protest against declaration by the then Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, who was reported as saying that confirmation of nominees by the Senate was subject to Section 171 of the Constitution.
