The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land allocations of several high-profile figures, including Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri, Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
This move comes after an extended grace period for the affected individuals to settle their Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills for plots located in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja, expired.
Lere Olayinka, media aide to the FCT Minister, confirmed that 568 land allottees had their Right of Occupancy (R-of-O) revoked for failing to meet the payment deadline.
Other notable individuals affected include former Enugu State Governor Chimaroke Nnamani, Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, and Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
In October 2024, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) had issued a notice to 3,273 allottees, granting them a two-week ultimatum to clear outstanding payments. While 2,511 individuals complied, the remaining 762 were granted an additional two-week grace period.
However, as of January 15, 2025, only 194 of these allottees had completed their payments, leaving 568 in default.
The revocation notice, issued by the FCTA, references Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, which allows for the withdrawal of land rights for non-compliance with the terms of the grant.
The notice further clarified that title holders who settled their payments by the deadline remain unaffected.
