The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC)Ekiti Command, has inaugurated its Female Tactical Squad in response to the request of Nigerians to boost the security architecture of the country.
At the “passing-out-parade” of the Special Squad in Ado-Ekiti, the NSCDC Commandant- General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar, said the squad would assist in the area of “Safe School System” aimed at protecting pupils from kidnappers and other criminals
Abubakar, represented by ACG Ayinla Adeyinka, was of the view that the security situation of the country called for some concerted efforts, calling on governments, particularly state governments to accept the female tactical squad.
He added that the squad, a brainchild of corps was meant to assist the security architecture of the states, particularly Ekiti, which has been replicated in other states of the federation.
The NSCDC CG said,” the female tactical squad, if, properly annexed will serve as a boost in the security set up by providing needed assistance to the general populace in time of disaster and rescue system.”
He disclosed that the squad had been trained in the art of rescue system as well as martial art.
Gov. Kayode Fayemi, who was represented by the Ekiti Commander of South West Security Network, otherwise known as “Amotekun”, retired Brig.-Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana,, pledged his readiness to partner with security agents to strengthen the security architecture of the state.
Speaking at the occasion, the state commandant of NSCDC, Mr John Fayemi, thanked the Commandant- General for his unflinching support to the command in the areas of logistics and his various intervention programmes.
Fayemi also thanked Ekiti governor for creating the enabling environment that engenders peace in the state, commending his efforts at ensuring that peace reigned in the state.
Present at the occasion were, the State Head of Service, Mrs Peju Babafemi, representatives of Non-Governmental Organisations, (NGOs) and government’s functionaries among others. (NAN)
