A 19 -year-old teenager, Abdulahi Ganiu, was docked before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday for allegedly belonging to a secret cult.
Ganiu, whose address was not disclosed in court, is facing a charge of being a member of an illegal secret cult.
Prosecutor Lucky Ihiehie told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 2 at about 10.30 p.m., at Iyana-Isashi, along the Lagos-Badagry Express way of Lagos State.
Ihiehie said that the defendant was caught in the gathering of a cult called “Arobagga’’ Confraternity.
He said the offence contravened Sections 42(a) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The magistrate, Mrs Bukola Mogaji, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N 50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Mogaji said that the sureties must be residing within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.
The magistrate also said that the sureties should swear to affidavits of means and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of their bail conditions.
