Scores have been reported dead as violence broke out between Bassa and Egbira people in Toto local government area of Nasarawa state.
Our correspondent reports that residents of Shafa, Ugya and Umaisha have fled to neigbouring local government area about 34 kilometer away from the trouble spot.
Meanwhile, security personnel mostly from the military are now stationed in the area to prevent further escalation of violence.
According to locals, the violence has become a reoccurrence in the last two decades occasioned by fight over chieftaincy stool in Ugya community.
Sources in the state police command says the command is strategizing to curtail the situation.
Already, most people are homeless which further compounds the situation forcing government to apply civil measures to reduce casualty level.
The chairman of Toto council area, Prince Adamu Dauda says the violence is caused by intruders from neighbouring Kogi state.
