The Federal Government has donated 103,929 feeding utensils to 248 schools across 17 local government areas of Yobe, to fast track implementation of its school feeding programme.
Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq, Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, disclosed this while handing over the items to Yobe government on Thursday in Damaturu.
Umar-Farouq represented by Alhaji Hassan Maidugu, Assistant Director, Brell Library Bauchi said the intervention was one of the several strategic plans of the Ministry.
“It seeks to ensure that the target pupils have the best experience of hygiene and safety during their consumption of those free meals.
“It is our fervent hope and appeal that these items are put to the use they were provided for so that these children benefits more,’’ the minister said.
She added that the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) was one of the four key interventions of the Federal Government under the National Social Investment Programme.
Umar-Farouq said the programme was meant to boost school enrollment, nutrition, local economic activities in thousands of communities across the nation.
She assured that the ministry would continue to improve quality service delivery on all its social interventions, particularly NHGSFP.
In his remarks, Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe commended the gesture, adding that the programme had impacted positively in many ways.
Buni, represented by Alhaji Bulau Geidam, Director Humanitarian Affairs, Yobe Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, said the state government would support and complement Federal Government’s efforts to ensure successful implementation of the programme.
“It helps the students and their families. It encourages the students to attend school and encourages parents to allow their wards to go to school.
“The programme creates employment to a lot of people in the state,’’ he said. (NAN)
