Oba Cajetan Adekoya, the Ogegbo of Ibonwon in Eredo Local Council Development Area in Epe, Lagos State, has appealed to the Lagos State Government to save his palace from collapsing.
He said that the palace was currently in a bad shape.
Adekoya who made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday said the current palace was in a dilapidated state.
The monarch said that if nothing was done by the state government, the community could lose its cultural essence and representation.
He said that the community desired a modern palace in line with the mega-city status of Lagos.
“I have written several letters to the LASG, to the sons and daughters of the community who live within and outside the community but all to no avail.
“I am seizing this opportunity to appeal to the state government to assist us in renovating the palace.
“The palace is more than 40-year-old and it needs to be redeveloped into the modern day standard, ” he said.
The monarch also appealed to the LASG to build a mini museum in Ibowon where various cultural heritages, artefacts, sculptures and other traditional materials could be kept for safety purposes.
“Students, researchers and individuals can visit the palace and the museum to get materials that will be useful for their researches.
“The museum will boost the image of tourism in the community and also serve as a tourist centre for both local and international visitors,’’ he said.
Adekoya applauded Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State for the infrastructure development projects done in Epe Division.
He said that the entire sons and daughters of the division had been waiting for such development for decades.
“I appreciate the governor for the wonderful development, especially in the area of road construction and expansions, culture, tourism, marine front upgrading and improvement in power supply.
“The development will increase the economic and living standard of the community and its people, ”he said.
The monarch urged the sons and daughters of the community who were entrepreneurs should take advantage of the prevailing opportunities to invest in the community.
