The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Wednesday lost 11 of its members in the Senate to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
The members announced their decision to defect to the APC in a letter addressed to the Senate President, David Mark.
Prominent among those that dumped the PDP are three former governors: Bukola Saraki (Kwara), Danjuma Goje (Gombe) and Adamu Abdullahi (Nasarawa).
Prompt News recalls that 37 members of the House of Representatives in December had defected to the APC thus, pushing the party to the majority status.
Late last year, five PDP governors had also defected to the APC. They are Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Muritala Nyako (Adamawa), Rabiu Kwakwanso (Kano) and Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara).
On Tuesday night, the new national leadership of the PDP led by Adamu Mu’azu met with the party’s Caucus in the Lower Chamber to discuss the possible ways of checkmating the APC from taking over the House.
Also last week, a multiparty group christened the National Unity Group emerged in the House.
The group which comprises of PDP, Labour Party, Accord Party and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) members, vowed to resist any attempt by the APC to cause anarchy.
