LONDON – By Omobolaji Oyegunle Super Eagles and Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi has joked that his team-mate Alexis Sanchez robbed him of the team’s first goal against Hull City last weekend.
The 20-year-old thought he’d given the Gunners the lead at the KC Stadium but Sanchez was awarded the goal after getting the faintest touch as the ball on it’s way in.
Iwobi tweeted that he was robbed of what he thought was his goal, but later said it wasn’t important as long as the team wins.
“I honestly thought I’d scored”, Iwobi told Arsenal.com. But he kept on saying’ I got a touch,I got a touch!”. ‘Please, let it be my goal’!
‘At the end of the day,we won, so that’s all that matters”.
Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed his reasons for showing his faith in impressive young forward after an eye-catching display against Hull City.
The Nigerian attacker grabbed two assists in a 4-1 win over the Tigers, including a delicious back-heel to Theo Walcott for the second goal.
Iwobi only broke into Arsenal’s first-team toward’s the end of last season but Wenger is a big admirer of his talent and is securing his faith in the player repaid handsomely
“I started him last year because I see in him that there’s something in him that is quality of vision, quality of give and go of movement’, Wenger said.
“He can break the lines with a pass and individually as well, so there’s a lot in the player.
‘Overall, he’s only 20 years old so you could see that he has gained confidence now. He can take people on much more and has gained power as well. It’s interesting what he has done’.
