Nigeria’s representative in the maiden edition of the CAF Women champions league Rivers Angels have been dumped out of the competition after loosing thrir second game 0 – 1 against Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.
The Nigeria champions in the first encounter suffered a 3-0 defeat to ASFAR FC of Morocco and dropped to the bottom of the table before another loss to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Rivers Angels on Tuesday confronted Mamelodi Sundowns who won their opening game with a slim 1-0 win and it ended in another defeat for the Nigeria side.
The game started with Rivers Angels dominating the game and recording three corner kicks in a row but it was Nhlapho that put Sundowns ahead in the 17th minute in a controversial manner.
All the efforts of Rivers Angels to level the game before the end of first stanza proved abortive.
Despite the pressure, Sundown backline stood their ground throughout the entire second half and condemned Rivers Angels to another defeat.
The result means that Rivers Angels are out of the competition irrespective of the outcome of their game against Vihiga Queens of Kenya on Friday.
