The Reds were overwhelming favourites to win the contest but failed to breach United’s defence.
United were in resolute mood and could have won the game had Alisson not saved from Rasmus Hojlund in the second half.
Liverpool surrendered their perfect home record this season following the stalemate.
Jurgen Klopp’s side dropped to second position on the table.
