By Olusegun Lawrence The House of Representatives Tuesday summoned the Director General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura, to explain the rationale behind the invasion of Ekiti State House of Assembly.
It will be recalled that operatives of the DSS had last week Friday, invaded the Assembly during which four lawmakers of the state were arrested.
A motion moved by House Majority Leader, Mr. Leo Ogor, condemning invasion of Ekiti House of Assembly and abduction of four lawmakers was unanimous adopted.
According to him, “It is a clear violation of the provisions of the constitution; it is unacceptable as it demonstrates interference of an arm of government.
“If somebody violates the law and nothing is done, it gives him the privilege to move forward.
“Therefore, it is important that we summon the Director-General of the DSS to explain where the agency derived its powers to invade and destabilize the activities of the House.
“It is important to respect the rule of law and the sanctity of this institution must remain sacrosanct.”
Speaker Yakubu Dogara, however, referered the matter to the house committee on intelligence and public safety.
