The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, Bayelsa State has condemned the attack on its Secretariat along DSP Alamieyeseigha Expressway, Yenagoa by irate youths, during the House of Representatives primaries at the weekend . The Party in a release signed by its Publicity Secretary, Barrister Osom Jacob Makbere blamed members of the opposition within the Party for being the brains behind the attack. Describing the PDP as a formidable and most peaceful party in the Country, Makbere noted with dismay the activities of some highly respected members of the party, especially the use of innocent youths to disrupt the Party’s primaries. According to him, the irate youths in an attempt to hijack the election materials forced their ways into the building and ransacked all the offices in search of election materials and other vital documents. Having failed in their attempt to locate where the election materials were kept, they resorted to throwing of missiles and other dangerous weapons which eventually led to the destruction of the Party’s secretariat. In order not to allow the situation to degenerate into a bloody clash, the security operatives swung into action and handled the matter in a professional way which is highly commendable. However, the party has faulted the claim in some sections of the media that the primaries were marred with violence by protesters, submitting that there was no iota of truth in the reports. It added that the primaries went on smoothly in all the five Federal constituencies of the state, commending the members, especially the delegates for their peaceful disposition. It also warned the people, especially members of opposition within the party against promoting violence, threatening that anybody caught in the act, irrespective of his/her position will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
