A ranking member of the National Assembly, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has said that the release of the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will end the escalating state of insecurity in the South East geopolitical zone of Nigeria
Ubah who is representing Anambra South Senatorial District in the Senate under Young Progressive Party (YPP) said this while speaking on South East Insecurity on CHANNELS TELEVISION breakfast programme Sunrise Daily monitored in Abuja on Thursday.
According to him the release of Kanu will douse the agitation in the South East region and stop the Monday Sit-at-home which he said has crippled the economy of the people of the South East geopolitical zone.
Ubah posited that Nnamdi Kanu is an issue nobody can deny because he has alot of followers in the South East and across Nigeria, pointing out his release will end the Sit-at-home order and render the counter directives by a renegade group led by Finland-based Simon Ekpa ineffective.
The lawmaker insists that when Kanu is released, Ekpa will no longer instil fears in the people of the South East through the social media as those causing trouble on the basis of the incarceration of the IPOB leader will not have any other reason to declare Sit-at-home in the zone.
Ubah decried the destruction of the South East economy through the Sit-at-home order by IPOB and its affiliates, saying that Igbo businessmen control 70% of Nigerian economy and will not tolerate anything that will lead to the killing of businesses in the region.
Asked if his pet project of providing Close Circuit Television (CCTV) and communication gadgets for the the people of his Anambra South Senatorial District to fight insecurity is achieving the desired results, Ubah said insecurity can no longer be fought by kinetic methods alone.
He believes that gradually, the people will be strong enough to banish the fears of the unknown gunmen to continue to go about their businesses on Mondays.
