By Victoria Hanson Lagos State House of Assembly has slated next week Tuesday Nov 10, 2015 for a simultaneous stakeholders meeting in all the 40 constituencies in the state.
The meeting is against the protest which was carried out at the assembly complex on Thursday, by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Lagos State Council, on the incessant rape of minors in the state.
In a motion moved and adopted by the lawmakers, the stakeholders meeting would highlight the primary responsibilities of the legislature which is to represent the interests and aspiration of its various constituents and to also make laws for the good governance of the state.
On their contributions concerning the meeting, the lawmakers observed that a large number of members of the public are not aware of the specific functions of the legislature and as such often erroneously make demands on members of the legislature to be performing the functions of the Executive Arm.
Furthermore, the Assembly however realises the urgent need to commence public enlightenment programme that will educate the public on the duties and constitutional limitations of the legislature as well as making adequate and the best use of the elected representative in each of the constituencies.
In this regard, the lawmakers had set aside the meeting to interact with various constituencies simultaneously throughout the state to enlighten members of the public on the structure of government duties of the respective arm of government and to also explain government policies.
