Retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, former military administrator of Lagos and Alhaji Muhammadu Uwais, former Chief Justice of Nigeria have called on Muslims to use the Ramadan period to pray for peace and unity in the country.
They both made the call on Sunday in Abuja at the 2018 Al-habibiyyah national unity Ramadan lecture with the theme: Fast, Feed and be Just.
Marwa, who was the chairman of the occasion, noted that without prayers and hard work the nation would not move forward.
He urged Muslims to use the holy month of Ramadan to pray for Nigeria’s leaders and the socio-economic development of the country.
“We need to take advantage of this holy month of Ramadan and pray for our President and pray for our dear country, ” he said.
Marwa also stressed the need for a just and egalitarian society where the less privileged would be adequately catered for.
Uwais in his remarks also called for prayers, respect for rule of law and selfless leaders to fast track Nigeria’s development.
He urged Muslims to be good ambassadors of the religion while contributing their quota to national development.
Earlier, the National Chief Imam of Al-Habibiyyah Mosque, Imam Fuad Adeyemi said the lecture was part of its contribution to national development.
He urged Muslims to be more prayerful and generous, especially to the less privileged in the society.
The guest speaker at the occasion, Salisu Shehu, Professor of Education Psychology, Department of Education, Bayern University, Kano, called for all hands to be on deck to develop the country.
He decried the alarming rate of poverty in the country and called on the government and the wealthy Muslims to redress the trend in order to develop the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that occasion was graced by Islamic scholars, the academia and politicians from across the country.
