FIFA has told 16 referees to return home from the ongoing 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Prompt News reports.
36 referees and 69 assistant referees from six Confederations started the competition.
After the group stage and the Round of 16 matches, a total number of 56 matches have been played in almost three weeks.
The football body on Thursday made it known that 16 referees have been released to return home.
The matches will return on Friday with quarter-final games slated for 2 days.
Croatia will take on Brazil in the first quarter-final by 4pm Nigeria time.
The second last eight clash will between Netherlands and Argentina.
