The Petroleum Training Institute (PTl), Effurun, Delta State on Thursday kick-started the commemoration of its 50 years of establishment (Golden Jubilee) in Abuja with a One-day Conference/Award Ceremony held at Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) located at Central Area of Abuja.
This is even as the celebration will continue in Effurun from October 21 to October 29, 2022 where series of activities have been lined up, to climax with the Institute’s Convocation on October 29, 2022.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha commended PTI for putting the event togather, saying that it is something to celebrate for the Institute to attain 50 years of age in training skilled personnel required in the oil, gas and allied petroleum industries.
According to Mustapha, it is proper for PTI to organize such big event to celebrate its achievements and attainment of the golden age, adding that it is a thing of joy that the Institute has done well in the industry which hitherto was dominated by the expatriates.
The SGF also commended PTI for training thousands of Nigerians who are today playing major and necessary roles in the oil and gas industry, adding that this is certainly a source of joy for the Institute and Nigeria.
Mustapha however advised PTI to heed the advice of the NNPC Group Managing Director (GMD), Mele Kolo Kyari to project its aspirations to the future and to be circumspect of the present global movement towards energy transition and the increasing demands for other sources of energy required a rethink and for the Institute you reassess its relationship with major players in the oil and gas sector such as NNPC and the international and indigenous players in oil and gas sector.

PTI, Dr. Henry Adebowale Adimula, the Principal/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PTI, thanked the invited guests and commended the achievements recorded by the Institute in the past 50 years of existence.
The Petroleum Training Institute was set up by enactment of Act No. 37 of 1972 and subsequently amended by Act No. 52 of 1975 and PTI CAP P16, 2004 to provide courses of instruction, training, and research in oil technology and production of technicians and technologists and such skilled personnel required for oil, gas and allied industries.
Other important personalities who attended the event aside Mustapha and Kyari were Osagie Okunnor, MD, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, etc.
